Who is Mike?

I was born in Los Angeles, but Fresno has been my hometown as I have been here since I was 3 years old. I went to college at the University of California, Santa Barbara and majored in Biology. I have been married for 2 years. My wife’s name is Cara and my son Grayson is almost 1 year old. I have been a pharmacist for 4 1/2 years.

What influenced you to become a pharmacist?

I knew I always wanted to be involved in healthcare since a child. Both of my parents are doctors, and I learned a lot from them growing up. Science and math have always been my strongest subjects in school and the combination of those disciplines works well in pharmacy. I didn’t always want to be a pharmacist but when I heard about the local pharmacy school in Clovis and jumped at the opportunity to be part of the first class of graduates.

What does your role at IPM consist of?

I am a clinical pharmacist at IPM. I am responsible for reviewing prior authorizations. I also work on savings analysis for both future and current clients to show them how we can benefit their employees. I also help in developing new benefit programs for clients.

How does working at a PBM compare to working at a retail pharmacy?

I am currently working both jobs and my experience at IPM has really shown me the opportunity in working for a PBM. I do enjoy helping people at the retail level, but I am able to use my clinical skills and knowledge here at IPM

What has surprised you about working at a PBM?

The culture here at IPM is very collaborative and I have really learned so much from my coworkers here. Being able to go to work every day with a smile on my face has really made a difference in my life.

What do you like best about working at IPM?

The people who work here are great.

Favorite thing about being a pharmacist?

I enjoy learning about all the new and existing medications used to treat complicated diseases.
