On October 23, 2021, the DEA's Take Back Day will provide communities a safe, convenient, and anonymous way to dispose of excess or expired prescription drugs.
The Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) will hold its twice annual National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, October 23, 2021.
Take Back Day aims to prevent unused prescription drugs from getting into the wrong hands by providing a safe, convenient, and anonymous way to dispose of excess or expired prescription drugs.
In 2019, the National Survey on Drug Use and Health found that 9.7 million Americans misused prescription pain relievers, 4.9 million people misused prescription stimulants, and 5.9 million people misused prescription tranquilizers or sedatives. According to the study, misused prescription drugs were often obtained directly from the home medicine cabinets of family and friends.
Thanks to thousands of people from across the country, April 2021’s Take Back Day resulted in 420 tons of prescription drugs being safely disposed at authorized take back locations. Together we can make October 23 even more successful!
